North Hampshire Prostate Cancer Support Group
Group Meeting Report 30th May 2019
There were 34 members at our May meeting including one new member. This was somewhat lower than our average attendance but this was probably due to the school’s half term with many members being on “grandparent duty”
Our May speaker was Bob Chapman from Age Concern Hampshire. Bob gave an outline of the services provided by Age Concern which include: eleven day-care centres, dementia support, six activity centres in the north of Hampshire, exercise and yoga classes and financial information.
I.T support was of particular interest to our members and Bob gave several examples of the types of scam occurring via telephone calls and on the internet through emails and fake web sites.
For those members that who like help with using their computer, tablet, smart phone etc, Age Concern runs I.T support sessions in the Chineham and South Ham libraries (Basingstoke) Typical topics include how to use email attachments, on-line banking, on-line shopping etc.
Age Concern also provide a toe nail cutting service at a small charge.
It was noted that Age Concern Hampshire is a separate organisation from Age UK.
Our members warmly thanked Bob for a very informative talk.
If you would like more information phone on any of the Age Concern’s service, please phone 01256 423874 or visit their website. http://www.ageconcernhampshire.org.uk/
Alan, our Chairman, asked for member’s views on how we can best support each other as group meetings are not just talks from speakers. Some members were not sure who our Ambassadors are and your committee will be looking at ways to enhance the Ambassador role.
Our current Ambassadors are:
Ken Woolgar, Iris Woolgar, Bran Rolfe, Richard Holt
David Fryers, Katherine Fryers, Virginia Budd, David Breeze
Alan Instone* Martin Budd*
Please be aware however that Alan and Martin are often busy meeting our guest speakers and setting up the group meeting so may not always be available.
Brian Rolfe, our Events Officer gave an update on our regular skittles and lunch events and gave members a list of potential day trip outings that he is looking to organise later this year.
The raffle and other donations raised a total of £71.01 – thank you for your support.
At our next group meeting on 27th June, Sarah Fawcitt , our liaison nurse will be answering your questions on your common concerns and dealing with side effects of treatment. We look forward to seeing you in June.
