Event 26 September – Health and Well-being – Living With and Beyond Cancer
The sun god, Apollo, certainly lived up to his name for the day of this event. The weather was gloriously sunny. Two NHPCSG Committee members (Alan Instone and Ken Woolgar) turned up at the Apollo Hotel, just off the Aldermaston roundabout, Basingstoke to set up shop to participate in the event.
The morning was organised by Macmillan Cancer Support with the presentation programme covering psychological impact of cancer, fatigue management and exercise, healthy eating and relaxation/mindfulness.
Breakout periods allowed people to mix and mingle but also to visit the stands. There was opportunity to try what was on offer including Reiki therapy, how to make cakes from vegetables (the courgette cake in particular was very tasty). The Pink Space charity had a stand. Basingstoke Sports Centre did a taster session of chair-based exercise using resistance bands.
This event was not our usual public awareness opportunity however there was a lot of interest in our stand and in what our representatives had to say about the work of the Group.
There are further events planned at Winchester (24 October) and Andover (12 November) (see details on ‘external events’ drop-down tab). Group members living close to these venues, as well as members generally, may well want to put the dates in their diaries.
The events are open to all cancer patients within the North Hampshire area
